#01 Convening of an extraordinary session of the Serbian Parliament to discuss the state of the country after two tragedies in which 17 people, mostly children and young people, were killed

On May 8, the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and Information Society rejected the opposition MPs’ requests to discuss the mass murder that took place in the “Vladislav Ribnikar” elementary school and the resignation of the Minister of Education Branko Ružić.

On May 17, the Culture and Information Committee adopted the REM Report on the supervision of programs of commercial media service providers and submitted the proposed conclusion to the National Assembly for adoption under urgent procedure, in which it is stated that “mostly all television stations fulfilled their obligations, that reality shows are part of the Pink television’s program, but that there is no explicit example of violence”

On May 18, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, Vladimir Orlić, convened the third sitting of the regular spring session with four items on the agenda: a report on the security situation in Serbia, a Report by REM on the supervision of commercial media service providers’ programs for the period from October 2022 to the end of March 2023 with special reference to the reporting on cases of violence in television programs, the formation of the Inquiry Committee to determine the facts and circumstances that led to mass murders, and the motion of no confidence in the member of Government, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Bratislav Gašić

On May 30, the  Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, Vladimir Orlić, at the request of 106 MPs, convened an extraordinary session with three items on the agenda: REM’s Report on the supervision of commercial media service providers’ programs for the period from October 2022 to the end of March 2023 with special reference to the reporting on cases of violence in television programs, the formation of the Inquiry Committee to determine the facts and circumstances that led to mass murders, and the motion of no confidence in the member of Government, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Bratislav Gašić
